Quantized turbulence physics.
We elaborate the physics of systems of unconstrained, reconnecting vortex filaments with dynamic finite cores of uniform ("quantized") circulation interacting via Biot-Savart and viscous forces. The phenomenology of this purely structured turbulent system includes an inertial range with Kolmogorov's k(-5/3) scaling for the energy spectrum, as well as Kolmogorov's linear in r scaling for the thi...
متن کاملDecay of Quantized Vortices in Quantum Turbulence
The decay of quantized vortex line length in quantum turbulence at zero temperature is studied numerically by solving the Gross-Pitaevskii equation with a small-scale dissipation. The obtained decay of the vortex line length L is consistent with the L ∝ t −3/2 behavior which supports the Kolmogorov energy spectrum of quantum turbulence. The mechanism of the decay is discussed.
متن کاملNonextensive methods in turbulence and particle physics
We describe some recent applications of Tsallis statistics in fully developed hydrodynamic turbulence and in high energy physics. For many of these applications nonextensive properties arise from spatial fluctuations of the temperature or the energy dissipation rate. The entropic index q is related to the relative magnitude of these fluctuations. We concentrate on a recently derived formula for...
متن کاملThe Physics of Turbulence-Free Ghost Imaging
Since its first experimental demonstration, ghost imaging has attracted a great deal of attention due to interests in its fundamental nature and its potential applications. In terms of applications, the most interesting and useful feature, perhaps, is the turbulence insensitivity of thermal light ghost imaging, i.e., atmospheric turbulence would not have any influence on the ghost images of sun...
متن کاملProbing Physics of Magnetohydrodynamic Turbulence Using Direct Numerical Simulation
The energy spectrum and the nolinear cascade rates of MHD turbulence is not clearly understood. We have addressed this problem using direct numerical simulation and analytical calculations. Our numerical simulations indicate that Kolmogorov-like phenomenology with k energy spectrum, rather than Kraichnan’s k, appears to be applicable in MHD turbulence. Here, we also construct a self-consistent ...
